June 13th
The STS has a couple of announcements to make.
1. We would like to thank the wonderful folks at
Leesville Speedway for coming out and seeing the show. It was one of the
biggest and friendliest crowds we have had all season. They
helped Brad and the Group raise over $1500 for the tornado victims in Joplin
MO. That money has been sent to a local church in Joplin and has
already been put to good use. And all the people that came down after
the races to talk to the drivers and get autographs made the night an
absolute blast.
2. We have two new race sponsors. Pop-a-Lock has
joined us for the August 13th race at Champion Park Speedway and Tango
Transport has joined forces for both of the "Cajun Classic" races at
Ark-La-Tex Speedway October 14th & 15th. And Mechanix Wear is
going to sponsor the group some merchandise to give away for the Mechanix
race that we are trying to put together. So drivers, please try
to figure out what crew member you would like to represent your car in the
first ever "STS Mechanics Race" Please no ringers, we would like this
to be fun for the guys that work on the cars, but don't ever get to drive
one.
3. Please understand that NO ONE
other than the series director, the series tech man or French Grimes can
have you tear your motor down. If Brad Hawkins or Billy Page do
not tell you that you have to tear your motor down, than please don't do it.
Once your engine is sealed, no one can make you tear it down, except a
series official. If you question the officials call, you are more than
welcome to call French Grimes himself with any questions you may have.
Our series is built on integrity and trust. We have absolute trust in
out drivers and our officials to make the right calls. Please do not
let someone influence you into thinking that you need to tear your engine
down.

"Thunder on the High Banks" Round 2 at
Lone Star Speedway goes to Dale Wester.
Dale Wester, driver
of the #12w got his picture taken with the checkered flag Saturday night by
winning the A-Main event against a stacked crowd of STS drivers, that
included #80 Josh Hawkins, the STS point leader, Cody Robbins, last week's
feature winner. Neil McCarl driver of the "Three Eleven" car that took the
checkers in round one at Lone Star Speedway. Not to mention the driver of
the 49er car of Ty Johnson former ASCS ace, David Forbis, driver #28 former
feature winner and up and new comers the Hinton
Brothers, Casey and Cody, and the drivers of the #13 car Justin Witt and the
#12 car of Marty Hargroder.
Mr. Wester started off the night finishing
second in his heat race behind the heat race winner #49 Ty Johnson. After
the redraw the #12w started beside the heat race 1 winner #01 Greg Bartchy.
With the Ty Johnson and #30 of Regan Hawkins making up the front row.
The race broke out in a furious pace with
Ty Johnson putting the 49er in the lead for the first part of the race, but
as the laps progressed Dale Wester chewed into that lead and eventually
taking it over around the half way point. The feature's only caution,
for the flat tire of #49 Johnson, lead to the only shot for someone to get
around the fast machine of Wester. But they had no luck as Wester took
the green and a commanding lead. With Josh Hawkins and Raven Culp rounding
out the top three with Greg Bartchy bringing it home in 4th and Cody Robbins
moving into the top five. The Two biggest movers of the night were the #3 of
Raven Culp, who started 9th and moved up to 3rd and the #28 of David Forbis
who went from 11th to 6th

Cody Robbins Takes Champion Park
Cody Robbins drove
his #7 into victory lane over the largest field of the season at Champion
Park Speedway in Minden Louisiana Saturday night. Cody started out the
night by winning his heat race only to pull out a 24 out of the pill draw
putting him in the back of the invert. Josh Hawkins and Billy Page Jr
were also heat race winners. Cody Started 6th and quickly moved to the
front. Cody jumped out to big leads time after time with caution
repeatedly closing up the gaps. He even once got passed on a restart
only to get it back due to a caution. But once out front for the last
5 laps he never looked back or was challenged.
This was the first weekend for the STS
Frisbee toss and it was a success! All the crews of the STS would like
to invite all kids to bring their parents into the pits after the nights
racing to sit in the cars, talk to the drivers, get their pictures taken and
get to know all the people that run the Southern Thunder Sprint Series.
Without the fans we would not have any where to do what we do and we would
love to show you, up close and personal, how we do it.

Neil McCarl takes the Thunder on the
High Banks at Lone Star Speedway.
Neil
McCarl took the checkers at Lone Star Speedway for his first win of the 2011
season. After the heat races, Winners Josh Hawkins and Alan
Myers drew the 3rd and 4th starting position putting Greg Bartchy and Neil
McCarl, heat race runners up, on the front row. At the drop of the
green Bartchy pulled out to a comfortable lead, with McCarl slowly chipping
it away. On lap 13 Neil took the lead and checked out leaving the race
for second place. And a race it was with Josh Hawkins and Greg Bartchy
being only separated by only half a position with Greg Bartchy's #01 inching
out the #80 of Hawkins with #8a of Alan Myers rounding out the top 3.

Koty Adams makes it 2 in a row at
Sabine Motor Speedway
Koty Adams made it look easy as he
lead every lap of the feature on his way to his second feature win of the
season. Koty won his heat and then to drew the Pole Position for the
feature. Ty Johnson, from Eunice LA, took the second spot followed by the
hard charging Neil McCarl and Cody Robbins. Cautions for the flipped
car of Josh Hawkins and busted front end of Nunie Lopez. Neil and Cody
started the race 10th and 11th and with cautions at the right time, managed
to work their way in to the top five.

in front of 2nd place finisher Derek Weaver and 3rd place Koty Adams.

Last race Derek Weaver lead all 20
laps, this time all he needed was 20 feet.
Derek Weaver took his second win in
as many races Saturday at Speedarama in Lufkin TX. The feature race
started on a bad note when Cody Robbins tangled with another car on the
first lap, taking and wild ride and ending his night. The field lined up
for an original restart and this time Billy Page Jr. took off and took the
lead. He enjoyed as much as three quarters of a straightway at one point,
but as the race went on, the #49 of Ty Johnson and #32 of Weaver were
obviously closing in on Page. With a nice sticky track and a hand full of
laps to go Johnson pulled to the infield with over heating problems and left
the race up to Page and Weaver. With 2 laps left Weaver made his move, but
to no avail, Page beat him out of turn 2. Weaver beat on the steering
wheel, then took a breath and thought up his next move. Going into turns 3
and 4 Weaver took to the high side and made it stick completing the pass and
taking the checkers for his second win of the season. The
drivers and crews would like to thank the nice folks at Speedarama for a
super night of action and a well prepped track!

In a Race marred by cautions, Derek
Weaver, driver of the #32 car, managed to keep his car out in front and out
of trouble by leading every lap. With a melee taking the green flag,
the field got re shuffled and reorganized. With a lot of cautions,
comes a lot of restarts which put Weaver in the cat bird seat. He held
off the field restart after restart and slowly chipped away at the laps
until finally the checkered dropped and Weaver took the checkers in the
season opener at Champion Park Speedway, presented by Wilson's Bistineau
Inn. The Southern Thunder Sprints make the trip to Lufkin Texas'
Speedarama March 26th.
